Diner goes digital, thanks to vocational training.

This Week’s National Apprenticeship Week and we decided to pay a visit to Georgie’s Diner, one of our Apprenticeship Employers in Pyle, Bridgend. Georgie’s Diner was recently featured on The One Show and has been awarded South Wales Regional Winner of the 2017 Britain’s Best Cafe Awards.

We spoke to Managing Director Hayley Grant, who’s due to complete her Hospitality, Supervision and Leadership Level 3 qualification, alongside two of her team members Janine and Adelle.

Hayley said: “I was initially apprehensive about starting my qualification due to my age, but my daughter stressed the importance of training. After researching training providers within South Wales, we decided that Itec was the one for us! I decided, if I was going to start learning again, my whole team would too. Since then three of us have been undertaking our NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Hospitality, Supervision and Leadership.

Looking back on my Apprenticeship journey, undertaking the qualification has given me a life, it’s really expanded my knowledge on delegation. I’ve gone from having no time to myself and feeling alone working 7 days a week, to booking holidays and leaving my team in charge.

The atmosphere is much more relaxed and we’ve learned so much more than just Bacon & Eggs. We now offer healthy eating options and the diner’s even gone digital! After completing the Promotional unit within the framework, we’ve expanded our knowledge on the use of social media and now fully utilise online advertising, creating Facebook competitions and engaging so many more customers.  Anna Bell has even helped us with the basic of tasks such as sending emails, which has hugely benefited the business as before now everything was done by word of mouth.

No barrier is too big; Anna Bell has helped us break down elements of English and Maths, in order for us to work towards completing our Numeracy and Literacy Level 2 qualifications. This alone is a massive achievement for all of us.

Before starting this Apprenticeship, I had tunnel vision and wouldn’t have even considered staff training opportunities. I can honestly say I thoroughly enjoy meeting with Anna Bell and working towards achieving my NVQ, as a team we can’t wait to progress onto the next level. It’s given us that confidence push, when we needed it the most.”

Janine said: “Anna Bell has taken me under her wings like a broken bird and has given me that confidence to fly and achieve my full potential within Hospitality”

You don’t have to be a large business to utilise Fully Funded Apprenticeships. If you’re interested in finding out how vocational qualifications could benefit existing staff , get in touch with our team on 02920 713689. #AppprenticeshipWeek #AWWales
