Caerphilly based social enterprise Graig Rhosyn Cleaning Services have highly praised the Welsh Government funded Employability Skills Programme, which they’ve accessed through training provider Itec Skills and Employment in celebration of #AdultLearnersWeek.
Adult Learners Week is an annual learning festival, celebrating the achievements of those participating in programmes and events whilst raising awareness of the positive and inspiring effect it can have on an individual’s life.
Both Graig Rhosyn Cleaning Services and Itec Skills and Employment share the same social goal of providing employment and training opportunities for local long term unemployed adults. The business has utilised this perfectly by giving 16 hardworking members of staff the chance to upskill and become dedicated permanent members of their hard-working team.
The Employability Skills Programme is available to people over the age of 18, who are unemployed and need assistance getting back into employment. The aim of the programme is to upskill participants by providing employability workshops, quality work placements with the end goal of progressing into full-time employment, each journey being personalised to the individual participating.
Graig Rhosyn Cleaning has a strong background in previous social enterprise projects, the company works hard to help increase each staff member’s self-esteem, build their skills and confidence, whilst training them to provide an excellent and professional service whilst representing the business.
Business Development Manager, Istvan Racz, emphasised the importance of these initial placements saying:
“It’s provided excellent prospects for both parties as it’s a great experience for businesses in their infancy. The initial placement process is extremely important as it gives the individual the opportunity to get a feel for the role and make sure it’s the right opportunity for them. It also allows the business to build a trusted mutual relationship with the individual. This prevents a high turnover of staff and the business in exchange gains not only a workforce but also a sharing of skills and life experience throughout.”
Itec’s Placement Officer, Stephanie Beauchamp commented “Graig Rhosyn Cleaning have helped long term unemployed people to get back into work for a number of years. It’s fantastic to see adults having the opportunity to learn new skills and take their first step back into the world of work.
We’re grateful that employers like Graig Rhosyn see the excellent benefits that the Employability Skills Programme offers both participants and businesses and continue to provide individuals with an opportunity of an employed future.
